English Language
We prepare students with communication skills while fostering empathy, and a celebration of diversity through literature and media. We foster language skill development, including skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students learn how to comprehend texts and conduct research. Students analyze literary and informational texts to gain an understanding of how meaning is conveyed.
In developing their media literacy skills, our students are encouraged to think deeply about texts. Students learn to identify and challenge stereotypes, biases, and power dynamics, developing critical thinking skills. Students create texts in various media, forms, and genres, developing writing process skills and their voice as an author.
Students engage with literature and media that reflect diverse cultures, backgrounds and perspectives. Through their explorations in literature and media, in challenging yet supportive classroom environments, students become more curious, knowledgeable and empathetic, developing a deeper understanding of self and a wider worldview as well as the skills necessary to thrive in our complex and interconnected world.
