1. Financial Controller

The Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) is currently looking for a Financial Controller.

Reporting to and under the general guidance of the Director of Business Administration, the Financial Controller oversees the administration and operation of the accounting department and maintains the School’s financial information, reporting and analysis systems to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records, including critical financial reports, income statements, balance sheets, annual reports and budgetary preparation. The Financial Controller ensures that strong accounting and internal control policies and procedures are implemented and monitors adherence to the School’s policies and procedures. The Financial Controller ensures timely compliance with regulatory requirements, in accordance with established legal regulations, ordinances, policies, procedures and guidelines. The position is part of the business and operations team and works cooperatively and collaboratively with both teaching and non-teaching staff to support the operations of the School.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides financial information, reporting and advice to senior management to assist in the achievement of operational objectives and the development of plans, policies and procedures.

  • Assists in developing financial strategies and improves efficiencies and reduces costs across operations.

  • Provides opportunity forecasting and stakeholder management.

  • Oversees all accounting operations to ensure compliance with all financial aspects of relevant CDNIS and/or government ordinances, regulations and policies and the accuracy and integrity of the financial management function (e.g. management reports, banking, purchases, internal controls & account allocations); identifies/ reports deviations or potential variances from approved annual operating and capital budgets.

  • Assists in the preparation of all financial reports, annual budget preparation (including developing budget modeling cost scenarios, financial strategy, risk minimisation plans and opportunity forecasting), high-level financial reporting and analysis, 5 year plans, project costing and feasibility studies as directed.

  • Exercises approval authority and acts as a signatory pursuant to Board approved resolutions. 

  • Liaises with external auditors, oversees/performs the preparation of working papers as required by the auditors, resolves issues/questions that arise from the audit and ensures the School’s audited financial statements are in compliance with Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards and Companies Ordinance. 

  • Develops and recommends procedural changes; updates manuals to reflect current or amended regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures, ensures their distribution (to staff) and maintains master copies. 

  • Supervise and mentor staff in the Accounting Department to ensure the integrity of the financial records such as the general ledger, accounts receivable, fixed assets register etc. 

  • Participates in the annual accounting staff performance review and appraisal process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Business Administration which are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • University Degree in accounting, finance, or business; Masters Degree in business administration or financial accounting

  • Professional Accounting Designation (ie CPA/CA/CFM/CMA)

  • Knowledge of and experience with ERP / integrated information system

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards in HK

  • A minimum of 12 years prior experience including the preparation of financial statements, budgeting, computerized accounting systems and supervising staff

  • Dynamic, proactive and forward looking

  • Demonstrate accounting best practices

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills

  • Fluent in English and Chinese

  • Effective time management skills and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines

  • Effective team leader who demonstrates initiative and sound judgment

  • Collaborative team player who works cooperatively with other staff to support the operations of the School

OR an equivalent combination of training and experience

Successful candidate with less training and experience may be considered for the role of Finance Manager.

 

2.  Contract Assistant Project Manager (6-9 months)

The Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) is looking for a Contract Assistant Project Manager (6-9 months).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist IT Project Manager in the execution of the project plans for the assigned projects

  • Review project designs and contribute ideas for enhancement

  • Coordinate project schedules, resources, equipment and information

  • Perform daily operational tasks in an effective and timely manner

  • Track and report project status updates to IT Project Manager

  • Create and maintain all current project documents

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with necessary specifications

  • Create and adhere to project timeline

  • Assist in monitoring system performance

  • Liaise with vendors and project stakeholders

  • Provide end user support

Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in Information Technology / Computer Science or equivalent

  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in IT

  • Experience in project management and project management tools

  • Solid working experience in monitoring outsourced contractor for system implementation projects

  • Knowledge of Linux server, networking and IT security is preferred

  • Experience in Mobile Apps and web application development is a plus

  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese. Mandarin is an advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

 

3.  Accounting Assistant (fixed term 6 months)

The Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) is looking for an Accounting Assistant (fixed term 6 months).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Handle daily transactions, such as cash and cheque deposit

  • Assist to handle both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions

  • Assist in month-end closing

  • Support external audit process

  • Perform ad hoc duties when necessary

Requirements:

  • Higher diploma holder in accounting is preferable

  • 2-3 years working experience in accounting

  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese

  • Proficiency in using MS excel and word, and having experience in accounting software

  • Able to work independently
